The police in Gwarinpa have recovered a vehicle reportedly stolen in Abuja at Enugu through a tracking device.

A police source said three armed men had snatched the Honda Accord vehicle from the owner on 45 Road, Gwarinpa last Sunday.

“The victims were in the car when another vehicle parked behind them. Three men alighted from it, approached them and pointed guns at them and ordered them to move to the rear,” the source said.

The source said the suspects drove their victims to a place in Life Camp and dropped them off before driving away with the car.

City News learnt that the victims’ father who owned the car reported the case at the police station at about 10.00p.m. on Sunday and the police activated the tracking device in the car immediately.

The Gwarinpa Divisional Police Officer, CSP Nuruddeen Sabo, who confirmed the recovery of the car, said by the time the device was activated, the car was close to Lokoja.

He said he contacted the Kogi State Police Command on Monday morning but before the exact location of the car would be sighted, the suspects had passed Lokoja and were heading to Enugu.

“I then called the Commissioner of Police in Enugu, who dispatched three different teams to search for the vehicle and by the time we were able to establish the exact location of the car, we demobilised the ignition and the car stopped. That was when one of the police teams got there and arrested one suspect who was trying to start the car again,” he said.

The DPO advised motorists to install tracking devices in their vehicles to make recovery of stolen cars easier, adding that those who could not afford the tracking device should buy and use pedal locks. A middle-aged man and a nursing mother were arrested on Monday afternoon by members of a vigilante group for allegedly selling donkey meat in Suleja, Niger State.

A resident, Bashir Usman, who gave the name of the suspects as Gabriel and Margaret, said they were arrested at Unguwar Gauraka, while selling the meat to some residents in the area.

He said it was one of the residents who discovered that it was donkey meat, and quietly alerted members of the vigilante, who came to the area and arrested the duo.

He said the suspects later confessed during interrogation by the vigilantes.

Our reporter learnt that the chief of butchers at IBB market, who got wind of the matter alerted vigilantes who mobilised to the area to carry out the arrest.

Reacting, the chairman of Suleja Council, Alhaji Abdullahi Abubakar, who spoke with our reporter via telephone, confirmed the arrest of the two suspects, saying the council was always disturbed over activities of such people that sold donkey meat to people in the area.

“In fact, this issue of selling of donkey meat has been giving us serious concern in Suleja and I had to set up a task force that comprised of butchers to go after the sellers,” he said.
