Vigilantes tortured suspect to death overhandse­t theft

A vigilante group in Nyanya Gwandara is said to have tortured to death a suspected handset thief in Masaka area of Nasarawa State.

The police also arrested a man said to have conspired with two others in the killing of a man who married a divorcee in Nasarawa Eggon LGA of the state. Parading the suspects, the Commission­er of Police, Abubakar Sadiq Bello, in his monthly media briefing in Lafia, said, “On 1st February, 2017, 25-year-old Gambo Hamisu of Nyanya Gwandara reported that on the same date at about 3.00p.m., the vigilantes of Nyanya Gwandara arrested his brother for stealing a handset and he was tortured to death.

“Four members of the vigilantes were arrested, while one Yakubu Suleiman is still at large.” The police boss, who also paraded the ex-husband of a woman for the murder of her new husband in Nasarawa, said: “One Adamu Jakpoo and two others were arrested for the murder of 38-yearold Haruna Musa of Allogani central, Nasarawa Eggon in his room.

“Late Musa married the wife that was divorced by one of the suspects. “Before then the deceased and his wife have been receiving several threatenin­g messages from one of the suspects.”

The commission­er disclosed the arrests of 29-year-old Iliyasu Yakubu of Sabon Pegi Shabu, Lafia for killing Atiku Godfrey of the same address.

“On 4th April 2016 the suspect in a bar used a beer bottle to hit his victim who later died at Crystal Hospital, Shabu while receiving treatment. Yakubu has been on the run since last year before his arrest,” he said.

Police have also arrested two of the three suspects who macheted 17-year-old Yahaya Jibrin following a misunderst­anding in Bokoko, Kokona LGA.

“They macheted him on the forehead.He later died while receiving treatment in the hospital,” he said.
