Air Force institute admits 277 out of 10,000 applicants
The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) Kaduna, has admitted 277 students out of the 10,000 applicants that applied for engineering courses.
The Provost of the institute, Professor Emmanuel Ezugwu, while speaking at the matriculation ceremony of the institute in Kaduna said the school admitted only a fraction of applicants who showed interest in engineering courses in its 2016/2017 academic session many of whom meet up with admission requirements.
He said, “We do not want to admit people we cannot take care of. We are admitting based on available infrastructures on ground for the purpose of qualitative studies. We don’t want to pack people like sand and overstretch the limited facilities the way other people do.”
He said the bill establishing the institute will be approved by the National Assembly.
In a remark, Commandant of AFIT, Air Vice Mashal Isiaku Bukar, told the guests and students that the matriculation, which is the third edition since its introduction in 2014/2015 academic session, is a proof that Air Force was imbuing in young Nigerians the virtue of innovations and technology development of the country using AFIT’s unique aeronautical engineering programmes.
The 277 students comprised of 57 females and 220 males. 133 students would study ND while the remaining 144 were for the HND programmes.
