RTEAN deputy chairman killed in Ekiti over internal crisis

- From Doyin Adebusuyi, Ado Ekiti

The internal crisis within the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Akure branch in Ado Ekiti, has claimed the life of its Deputy Chairman, Mr. Ojo Ogunsakin.

Ogunsakin allegedly died on Sunday after sustaining head injury inflicted on him by a unit chairman of the branch called Adeco.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abdullahi Chafe, ordered indefinite closure of the unit and stationed heavily armed policemen at the motor park to avert further crisis.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, while the culprit has been arrested and placed in detention at the police headquarters in Ado Ekiti.

Tracing the genesis of the internal crisis, the RTEAN State Chairman, Com. Samuel Agbede told newsmen in Ado Ekiti yesterday that the deceased had disbanded the executive being chaired by Adeco over offences bordering on ‘corruption, autocratic tendencies and high handedness’ , which he said infuriated the culprit .

Agbeded said, “The deceased was one of those who supported the idea to curb Adeco’s excesses, and he started threatening the deceased and hot argument ensued. As they were arguing, Adeco lifted a big stone and ran after the deceased and hit him in the head and he fell immediately.”
