A27-year- old man, simply identified as Kabiru was manhandled by some angry youths for allegedly attempting to escape with a passenger’s bag at Dei-Dei, an Abuja suburb.

A witness, Jamilu Bala, said the incident happened on Sunday evening under the pedestrian bridge at Dei-Dei junction.

He said a passenger, who he gave his name as Musa, boarded a taxi at Zuba, together with the suspect, while on his way to Gwarinpa, in which the suspect tried to remove the man’s bag inside the car boot.

He said the suspect who pretended to be a passenger alighted from the taxi under the pedestrian bridge and rushed to open the boot in order to remove the bag and the passenger sitting in front quickly raised an alarm

“He removed the bag and was about to cross to the next lane when the man who was sitting in front saw the suspect with the bag and asked the driver to stop. And before we know what was happening, the suspect took to his heels with the bag but the crowd around the place ran after him and apprehended him,” he said.

He said the suspect was beaten up and was bleeding from the mouth when the owner of the bag pleaded with them to leave the suspect alone.

When contacted the police outpost at Dei-Dei to confirm the incident, a police officer said the incident had not been reported.
