22 Kebbi traders die in road accident

5 bombers kill 3, injure 20 in Maiduguri blasts

Twenty-two traders have died in a road accident that occurred at Giron Masa along Koko-Yauri road in Kebbi State.

Witnesses said the accident happened when a Toyota Canter vehicle which tried to avoid a pothole in the road, hit a motorcycli­st who died on the spot while the vehicle The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said three civilians were killed and 20 others injured when multiple blasts rocked Maiduguri city yesterday.

A statement issued by Informatio­n Officer of NEMA, Ibrahim Abdulkadir, somersault­ed, fell into a ditch and caught fire because of the jerry cans of petrol and water pumping machines it carried, and killed 22 of its passengers.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Muazu Dakingari said Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu was at the scene of the accident and had led a high powered delegation to participat­e in the burial of the said bomb blasts had occurred in three locations around Muna Garage area of Maiduguri metropolis around 4am.

The statement said, “A total of five male suicide bombers were involved in the incidents. The first location is Muna Kumbori an unofficial host community camp housing 199 victims in a mass grave near where the accident happened.

While briefing Bagudu on the incident, the Sole Administra­tor of Shanga Local Government Area, Alhaji Garba Salihu Takware and the DPO in charge of Yauri said the vehicle was carrying traders returning from Tungan Giwa and Dalan Ruwa back to their homes when the accident occurred. internally displaced persons and attacked by three suicide bombers which led to the death of two persons. The second location is Muna Dagalti which was attacked by one suicide bomber killing one person. The third location is Muna Bulaya attacked by one suicide bomber who was the only casualty.”
