Generator fire kills man in Wumba

- By Taiwo Adeniyi

A middle aged man was severely burnt when the generator he was trying to refill caught fire in Wumba, a community in Apo District.

Witnesses said the incident happened at 7:00p.m. on Saturday. The victim later died at National Hospital where he was taken to for treatment.

A witness, who would want to be identified only as Samuel, said the man who worked with a guest house in the area was trying to pour petrol into the generator tank without putting it off when it suddenly caught fire.

He said the victim sustained severe injuries before he was rescued by residents who took him to National Hospital, where he died after a few hours.

Samuel said the fire was escalated by another diesel powered Lister generator running beside the gasoline generator that caught fire.

He said the fire before it lasted for several minutes was put off by the residents, adding that the case was not reported at the Apo Police Station.
