#BBOG tasks media on Chibok girls

- By Latifat Opoola

The Bring Back Our Girls Group (BBOG) has appealed to the media to sustain momentum in reporting the plights of 195 school girls abducted from a secondary school in Chibok, Borno State 1075 days ago.

Leader of the group, Oby Ezekwesili made the appeal yesterday during the groups visit to Daily Trust head office in Abuja.

She said the group would be content if media organizations focus more on the girls and atrocities in the Northeast where the girls were abducted than reporting about its activities.

“We don’t need anybody writing about the movement. We don’t need the media. But it will be shameful if the media stops talking about the Chibok girls, if they fold their arms on probing government on its promises.

“We need to see more of editorials, features, and more write ups focused on the girls. The rescue of the girls is what we want,” she said.

Oby said the group marked its 1059 days (yesterday) of its daily advocacy in ensuring the girls are rescued saying “195 are still missing and it is not right for anyone to become quite until they are all accountable. If they were children of the elite, would we just carry on without full accountability for them over three years now.”

She lamented how the group experienced series of backlash from both government and other citizens adding the #BBOG was tagged as the opposition by government for demanding accountability.

Oby promised the group remains resilient in advocating for the safe rescue of the abducted Chibok girls, until the last one of them returns home.
