Yobe students secure first position in 2017 JETs competition

The students of Government Secondary School Nguru, Yobe State, have bagged first position in the just concluded 2017 national Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientist (JETs).

The competition, which has representation of schools across the 36 states of the federation, was held between March 13 and 17 at CSM Grammar Secondary School in Lagos State.

Presenting a golden trophy won by the students to Governor Ibrahim Gaidam in Damaturu, the Executive Secretary, Yobe Teaching Service board, Baba Ali Maidala, said a “motorised spray machine` invented, presented and defended by the students” during the contest earned them first position.

“Students across 36 states participated in the competition, Yobe contingents; three boys, two girls constructed and presented motorized spray machine and won the first position. Ondo and Imo states became second and third positions respectively,” he said.

Receiving the trophy, Governor Gaidam, who was represented by Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mohammed Taha Daura, said the victory was a testimony to the fact that education has improve despite security challenges in the state.

He asked the students to work hard and maintain the tempo, saying the state government would continue supporting them in all their academic pursuit.
