Akwa Utd’s Ibrahim to miss clash against Lobi Stars

- From Dickson S. Adama, Uyo

Akwa United Football Club will today confront Lobi Stars at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi without their top scorer, Alhassan Ibrahim, who is down with an injury he sustained in their last home game in Uyo against FC IfeanyiUbah.

The clash which is the Matchday 16 encounter of the Nigeria Professional Football League is another opportunity for Akwa United to continue their quest for an away win in the league this season, having previously picked two points away against Katsina United and Gombe United.

The Promise Keeper drew 1-1 at home against FC IfeanyiUbah in their Matchday 15 clash at the weekend.

However, Coach Abdul Maikaba may rely on the attacking pair of Musa Newman and Christian Pyagbara today’s duel.

Defender Ariwachukwu Emmanuel is in the 18-man squad that travelled to Makurdi after serving a one match ban and goalkeeper Ishamila Shagari also made the trip ahead of Olufemi Kayode.

It will be the third meeting between the two teams since Akwa United defeated Lobi Stars in Federation Cup finals in Lagos in 2015.

Last season, the Promise Keepers won in Uyo and lost the reversed fixture in Makurdi, but a new look Akwa United under Coach Abdu Maikaba is more than determined to making a difference.

With five wins, five draws and five defeats, Akwa United are placed 9th on the log with 20 points from 15 games and a win in Makurdi today could see them consolidate their position on the league table.
