- By Joshua Odeyemi

A former captain of IBB Golf Club and the organiser of the J. K Gadzama Annual Golf Tournament, Barrister Joe Kyari Gadzama has said playing of golf regularly can help one prevent stroke and related disease.

Gadzama made this known in Abuja last Saturday after the teeing off of the 10th edition of the J. K Gadzama annual golf tournament at the IBB International Golf and Country club in Abuja.

“Golf promotes life, it promotes your business and so many other things that you don’t even know,” he said. “You can hardly see any person playing golf who suffers from stroke or related diseases.”

While noting that the World Health Organisation (WHO) had said adult should make a minimum of 10,000 steps everyday to keep fit, he said golf provides players the opportunity to have those steps without stress.

“As you are playing, you are enjoying yourself, you are smiling and then, claiming those 10,000 steps so that you can live long and live healthily,” Gadzama who said he had introduced over 100 people into the game of golf noted.

Speaking on the 10th edition of the tournament, Gadzama said, “The uniqueness of the 10th edition is that the focus is now on charity; charity to orphans, charity to widows,” adding that whatever is raised during the oneday tournament will be given out to the needy.

He said about 250 golfers from other local and international clubs expressed interest in the tournament but expressed regret that he could only absorb 170.
