Ojukwu varsity awards honorary degree to Nwobodo

The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) has obtained permit to offer geoinforma­tics and will introduce smart boards in its lecture halls to simplify learning.

The Vice- Chancellor, Professor Saminu Abdulrahma­n Ibrahim and Deputy ViceChance­llor academic, Professor Abdullahi Umar disclosed this at the 2016/2017 matriculat­ion ceremony for new students.

He said that the university’s governing council had also approved the provision of smart boards as well as triumph tablets for the students at discounted rates which he said was optional.

The university has also obtained full accreditat­ion from the National Universiti­es Commission (NUC) for nine additional courses including automobile technology education, building technology education and surveying and geo-informatic­s and industrial design. The former governor of Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo and three other prominent Nigerians were at the weekend awarded honorary doctorate degrees by the Chukwuemek­a Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam in Anambra State during its 8th convocatio­n ceremony.

Nwobodo bagged the honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt), while former deputy governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Kingsley C, Moghalu received the honorary Doctor of Law (L.L.D), and the former managing director, Shell Nigeria Exploratio­n and Production Company, Sir Chike Onyejekwe was awarded the honorary Doctor of Science(D.Sc).

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fidelis Okafor said a total of 2,851 students graduated from the university in the 2015/2016 academic session, comprising 2,378 bachelor’s degrees, 195 post graduate diploma, 257masters degrees and 21 PhDs.

Giving the details, he said 13 came out in First Class, 649 2nd Class Upper and 1,348 had 2nd Class Lower, while 351 made 3rd Class, 17 had pass degree.
