Re: Getting it right in Bauchi

-

My heart was gladdened by Mr. Ishaya K. Joshua’s writeup appeared on page 44 of the Daily Trust newspaper of April 12, 2017. The piece disclosed Governor M.A. Abubakar’s determination to embark on industrialization by reviving some companies like Bauchi Fertilizer Company, to reduce overdependence on federal allocation. Indeed, this insightful thought is so laudable in this egregious situation in which even the federal government has been making every effort to diminish its overdependence on oil by diversifying the economy.

However, in this era of economic diversification Governor M.A Abubakar has shown a thought-provoking effort via embarking on other sources to meet the increasing needs of his people. Apart from revitalizing Bauchi state fertilizer company, the governor should find other ways to generate revenue. It is indisputable that the significance of taxation and levies in the state couldn’t be overemphasized.

Additionally, it is no longer news that Bauchi state is endowed with moribund companies that can make sufficient Internally Generated Revenue and create jobs for the state. Those companies include, Arewa Ceramic Company, Bauchi Meat Factory, Bauchi Furniture Company, Azare Flour Mill, Bauchi State Waste Recycling Plant, Bauchi State Agricultural Supply (BASAC) and Zaranda Hotel.

For instance, the Arewa Ceramic Company which is located in Misau Local Government Area has the capacity to produce ceramic products that can generate huge revenue for the state.

Mustapha Baba Azare, Bauchi State.
