Gunmen kill 4 in Benue

- From Hope Abah, Makurdi

Gunmen have killed four people in separate incidents in two local government areas of Benue State.

The state command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Moses Joel Yamu, confirmed yesterday that two of the deceased were killed at Abaji in Kastina Ala LGA while the other two were murdered at a village near Jato Aka in Kwande LGA.

Yamu explained that the home of one Tor Abaji was attacked on Tuesday night at Abaji in Kastina Ala LGA and burnt down during which process one person was killed, adding that the police even invited the owner of the house who was yet to show up.

He stated further that in what was suspected to be reprisal, another person was trailed to the market in the area on Wednesday and shot dead by gunmen during which three innocent people sustained gun wounds.

The PPRO said the Abaji killing was a suspected internal crisis between criminal factions in the area who might be battling for supremacy.

In a similar development, Yamu confirmed the death of two other people killed in a village near Jato Aka in Kwande LGA on Tuesday following an attack on the locality by suspected herders.

The Police spokesman appealed for calm, saying that the command had deployed enough security to troubled zones to ensure a peaceful Easter celebration.
