TCN replaces FCT transformers 42 days after
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said it has installed two new 66MVA transformers at its Katampe -Abuja and Alagbon - Lagos substations after 42 days of intense load shedding by the affected Distribution Companies (DisCos).
The AGM, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, in a statement yesterday said the 132kV voltage level section of the Katampe sub-station lost one of its two unit 60MVA transformers to internal faults six weeks ago.
“This resulted in load shedding in areas like Gwarimpa, Jabi, Life Camp, Maitama and Wuse 2, from March 1, to April 10, 2017,” the statement said.
Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) serving the franchise said the load shedding had also affected part of Maitama, Gwarinpa and Lugbe in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), saying it had kept the customers informed about the occurrence severally.
TCN however said yesterday that with the installation and energizing of the transformer last Tuesday, the bulk load wheeling capacity of the transmission sub-station at 132kV voltage level increased from 120MVA to 126MVA. “This means that the substation now has the capability to wheel power at full capacity to distribution load centres,” it said.
With the new transformer installed at the Alagbon transmission station in Ikoyi, last week, TCN said there are now three 60MVAs and two 66MVA transformers, resulting 312MVA capacity on 132kV voltage level.
It said the result has been improved power supply to Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Dolfin Estate and Marina in Lagos State.
