The government can do better, BBOG says
Three years since the abduction of Chibok Girls, the group campaigning for their safe rescue, the BringBackOurGirls (BBOG) movement, has again expressed disappointment at the slow pace of the mission.
Convener of the group Oby Ezekwesili told Daily Trust in an interview yesterday that although the group feels exhausted, it also feels “terribly let down because we feel like government could have done better in the last three years they were abducted.
“We do feel exhausted but undying hope that our Chibok girls are there keeps us going,” she added.
She said the Buhari administration has not matched the results with the kind of expectations that it gave to the parents, community, Nigerians, and also the movement.
She further said “If this government had managed the tragedy in a way that showed sensitivity better than the previous government, people would at least say, oh we can see.”
She said the FG should ask Nigerians for feedback on how it has managed the process and everything that concerns the girls, “it will see that the results it had generated has not matched the expectations, pledge and promises it has made.”
She said the government should use the method it adopted in rescuing 21 of the girls to rescue the remaining 195 girls still in captivity.
Ezekwesili also appreciated the work of the military but regretted their effort is not what is immediately needed for the immediate rescue of the girls.
“Government has already set the pace by negotiating for the release of the 21 girls. That mechanism will deliver the rest of the girls faster than the military operation. The military operation should continue to safeguard the land,” she added.
