Aminu Kano is blessed to be remembered annually — Jibril Aminu

- From Yusha’u A. Ibrahim, Kano

Former Petroleum Minister, Professor Jibril Aminu, said yesterday that it is a sign of blessing that thousands of people will gather at Mambayya House every year to remember the late Malam Aminu Kano.

Professor Aminu who stated this at the 34th Malam Aminu Kano Annual Memorial Symposium, held at the Centre for Democratic Research and Training Mambayya House, urged the management of Bayero University Kano to uphold the virtues of the late Aminu Kano.

He said, “The legacies of the late Aminu Kano is not something that we can easily throw away. Observing annual symposium is easy but what do we do in ensuring that we practice the teachings of the late Aminu Kano? This is what we are not doing. We should not forget late Aminu Kano’s virtues. How many Nigerians are blessed like him?”

“Each time, I met late Malam Aminu Kano, I used to jot some notes because I didn’t want to miss some important lessons from him. The man struggled for the masses and is still being remembered by the masses for what he did for them,” he said.

Also extolling the virtues of the late politician, the Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i said Aminu Kano did significant things to improve the living standard of the Talakawa and for the development of democracy in the country.

He said, “Late Malam Aminu Kano left legacies which if we emulate they would really help our democracy and the country as a whole.”

His Kano State counterpart, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who was represented by the acting governor, Professor Hafiz Abubakar said leaders in the country had deviated from the real teachings of the late Malam Aminu Kano.

“Unless the leaders return to their senses and adhere to the teachings of revered politicians like Aminu Kano, they would never get it right in their political endeavors,” he said.
