Katsina United wallop Pillars 3-0

- By David Ngobua

Katsina United yesterday walloped neighbours Kano Pillars 3-0 in their opening match of the ongoing La Liga/NPFL U-15 Promises league at the Kaduna Centre.

After a barren first half, Katsina United opened scoring in the 57th minute through Abdulkadir Yahaya.

Yahaya Ahmed doubled the lead for Katsina United in the 72nd minute before Shehu Suleman took the match beyond Pillars in the 74th minute of the highly entertaining match.

Reacting to the victory, the chairman of Katsina United, Alhaji Aminu Balele Kurfi told Daily Trust that the victory is a morale booster for the young players who refused to be intimidated by the profile of their more illustrious opponents.

He also attributed the commanding performance of his team to the enormous contributions of the sports loving governor of the State, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari.

Kurfi therefore said the big win will surely encourage his boys to take on their remaining opponents in the competition which is aimed at discovering young talents.

“I am really proud of my boys. This is a big win for us in Katsina because everybody knows the rivalry between us and Kano State.

“Before the match, only a few people gave us any chance. Pillars were highly favoured to win but football is played on the pitch. So my boys refused to be intimidated.

“I also want to attribute this victory to the massive support we have continued to receive from our amiable governor who ensures we have everything we need to compete against other clubs.

“I therefore want to urge the boys to build on this victory because there are other matches ahead. It is not yet time to celebrate but I commend them for doing Katsina State proud today (yesterday),” he stated.
