Organizes data journalism training
Peoples Daily, Blueprint, Authority, and Daily Stream would participate in the training. The programme is put together by the Daily Trust Foundation, and funded by the MacArthur Foundation.
The Daily Trust Foundation is the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of the Media Trust Limited. It is a non-profit outfit, involved in diverse support activities. They include capacity building for journalists, scholarships to enhance the girl-child education, provision of materials to cushion the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and provision of social amenities in povertystricken communities.
On its part, the MacArthur Foundation has supported developmental projects in Nigeria in diverse fields. It is at the moment engaged in activities to promote an atmosphere of accountability, transparency, and good governance in Nigeria. It is supporting efforts that would lead to reduction in corruption and to strengthen anticorruption efforts.
The statement said, “The training is geared towards introducing participants to the basic principles and practice of investigative reporting, and how to use data as the bases of their stories.”
The programme, which commences today, is part of yearlong training activities that would expose participants to the various ramifications of data journalism and onthe-field investigative reporting experience.
In line with the funding objectives, those who undergo this training would do series of investigative stories in the education and power/energy sectors in Nigeria.
