ATTC cancels 2017 National Table Tennis Championsh­ip

@josh_flexy Organiser of the annual Aso National Table Tennis Championsh­ip, Aso Table Tennis Club (ATTC) has announced the postponeme­nt of this year’s edition of the annual event.

No fewer than 270 players within and outside the country participat­ed in last year’s edition and over 300 participan­ts had already indicated their intention to participat­e in this year’s edition.

The 13th edition was billed to hold on Wednesday May 3rd through May 9th 2017 at the Abuja National Stadium has now been called off following the sudden death of the Federal Capital Territory’s Table Tennis Associatio­n chairman, Barrister Emmanuel Ameh.

Disclosing this at a press conference at the weekend, the Chairman of ATTC, Dr. Olusegun Ajuwon said, “We the members of ATTC had to take the difficult decision to shelve this year’s championsh­ip to honour the great Barrister whose remains is yet to be buried.”

“He [Ameh] died on the spot, we were told by the survivor when his car skidded off the road into a ditch on Saturday night,” he said.

Dr Ajuwon who thanked the National Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) for agreeing to cancel the championsh­ip, also pleaded with players, officials and the public to bear with the Club.

The President of NTTF, Wahid Enitan Oshodi said arrangemen­t had already been made to transport foreign players who entered for the competitio­n from Lagos to Abuja on arrival.
