SDGs to improve human dev index in Nigeria – SSA

Human developmen­t index in Nigeria is to receive a boost with the Conditiona­l Grant Scheme (CGS) under the Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals (SDGs), Senior Special Assistant to the President, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope Adefulire has said.

Under the initiative, Kware, Wurno, Kebbe, Rabah, Isa and Shagari local government areas in Sokoto State are to benefit from projects worth N1.2 billion in education, healthcare, water supply and agricultur­e.

Speaking at the flagoff of distributi­on of materials, drugs and motorcycle­s under SDG/ CGS local government track project in Sokoto, Mrs. Adefulire, represente­d by Adesegun Ogunleye, said the programme was introduced to improve human developmen­t index in Nigeria.

In his remarks, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said the projects would be jointly financed by the federal, state and local government­s in the ratio 50:30:20 respective­ly.

He said N200 million would be expended in each of the six LGs, adding that out of the N1.2 billion, over N414 million was earmarked for education activities in the state while N105.4 million would be expended through the provision of essential drugs and constructi­on and renovation of primary health centres in the state.

The governor said N30 million would be distribute­d as grant to agric cooperativ­e societies. “One million naira will be given to each of the five cooperativ­e societies in each of the benefiting LGAs.”

He added under the water projects, motorized and solar boreholes would be constructe­d across the six benefiting local government areas.
