Kalu turns ‘preacher’ at Abia APC pally

- From Linus Effiong, Umuahia

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday assembled caucus members, some past public office holders and other stakeholders at the residence of a former senator to brainstorm on strategies that will strengthen the party ahead of 2019.

Speaking at the meeting, a former governor of Abia State, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, said party politics was built on unity and called on members to forgive each other for the APC to form the next government in the state.

He identified “unforgiving spirit and gossip capable of destroying the party and lack of party offices at the ward and local government levels” as contributors to the dismal performance of the party in the state in 2015.

According to Kalu, “All of you here are well experienced politicians, party politics is built on unity and I want everybody to forgive each other. We need love and understanding if we really want to move the party forward; if we continue with internal disputes, winning the next general elections will be a joke,” he said.

“Love is the best ingredient we need now as a party in the state; let’s forgive the past and look forward to 2019 and the love for the party should be supreme, “he added.

Kalu called on party faithfuls to mobilise more members to participate in the voters registration exercise, assuring that the APC would resist any form of manipulation of results during elections.

Also speaking, state chairman of the party, Chief Donatus Nwamkpa, said the meeting was designed to take decisions that would strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
