The Federal Capital Territory Ministerial Task Force Team will soon begin the demolition of structures along Karu-JikwoyiOrozo - Karshi road.

This was made known on Tuesday when the team, headed by Major General Emmanuel Nienge, visited the Chief of Karu and the Emir of Karshi to solicit their support for the exercise.

Led by the FCT Minister Muhammad Musa Bello, the team said structures by the roadside would be demolished to ease traffic flow on the road.

Responding, the Chief of Karu, Emmanuel Kyauta Yepwi, said the exercise, meant to decongest the road, was a welcome idea which would bring relief to the community.

He explained that the axis was one of the most vital gateways into the FCT and needed to be clean and organised.

“If this work is to be successful there must be pains and it is our duty as the indigenes to accept it the way it comes; because, at the end of the day, we will be the benefiting parties,” he added.

On his part, the Etsu Karshi, Alhaji Ismaila Danlado, pledged support to the task force team’s activities.

He, however, called on the authorities to create more collection points for waste in the area, adding that it would help keep the community clean.

Meanwhile, a yam trader, Laraba Steven, who sells by the roadside at Karu market, said they had nowhere to sell since they were not allocated space in the market.

“Some of us are widows and we need to make ends meet in order to cater for our children, so we are calling on government to relocate us to a new place where we can sell without any problem,” she said.
