Customs, PFAs parley on retirement planning in Bauchi
The Nigeria Custom Service (NCS) in partnership and Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) have held a two day workshop for its officers to strengthen their knowledge on pension and retirement benefits.
According to the organisers, the interactive session which was held at the NCS Zone ‘D’ headquarters attended by officers from the zone was to raise awareness among officers on their rights, duties and obligations under the Pension Reform Act 2014.
In his welcome address, the NCS Zonal Coordinator, Zone ‘D’, Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) Felix Ademuyiwa Dosunmu said the workshop will provide opportunity for junior and senior officers to strengthen their role and gain insight on saving plan for financial security and good health after retirement.
He explained that the objective of the interactive session is to provide understanding of participants on how to access, analyse, interpret and manage their Retirement Savings Account (RSA).
“It will also deepen their knowledge on pension contribution, remittances and terminal benefits, “he said.
Dosunmu further explained that the workshop will afford stakeholders to deliberate and identify ways to take personal responsibility of getting all their retirement benefits right.
In his presentation titled “Retirement Planning in Everyday Life’’, Officer-in-charge, Pension, NCS headquarters, Assistant Comptroller (AC) Herbert Edema, said the interactive session is meant to sensitise, stimulate and sustain interest in retirement planning.
“We are organising this interactive session with our officers to allay the fears of misery, health challenges and poverty in retirement as well as to enable them appreciate the benefits of creating and growing wealth. Retirement life without a plan is like a sail boat without rudder.
“Retirement is real and inevitable. You must be prepared for it while in active service, so, start planning for your retirement now, your tomorrow starts from today. Therefore, we are using this forum to have an insight to how to maintain a healthy lifestyle and knowledge that only the living can enjoy,” he said.
