Fifteen designers all based in Plateau State on workers’ day, staged the State’s first fashion show which attracted top fashionistas from around the State and environs.

Some of the home based designers that participated in the 2017 Plateau Fashion show include Thread by Kwete, Grammon 24, DelAfrica, Mef fashion, S-Prestige and others. The event which took place at the crest hotel in Jos showcased designs mostly from Ankara and other fabrics for male and female.

The show also showcased various artists and comedians from Plateau and other parts of the country including Favour, Muda, Valentine, and AB-Wonder who trilled the audience with musical songs, dance and jokes.

The designers; four male and 11 female were motivated by Pastors Jamimah Mbaya and Margaret Inusa who sponsored the event. Pastor Margaret urged the designers and other youth to follow their passion adding that, “it doesn’t matter what you studied in the university, it is all about what you are passionate about. Plateau State has been quiet in the area of fashion and I am glad this is taking place.”

On her part, Pastor Jamimah, also a fashion designer thanked the designers for using her fabrics in one of their displays.

One of the designers, Patience Audiel Agbese, the CEO of Thread by Kwete said she and three others will be participating in a fashion show in

Lagos this month. Agbese said though she studied Theatre Arts at the University of Jos, she went into the fashion line in 2014 after she trained in a six month beginners’ course at a fashion school in Jos.

She said she has always loved fashion, and is drawn to making designs that Africans can readily wear instead of importing adding that; “I also learn a lot from books, instagram and lots more and hope to go to a fashion school in Paris.”
