Seven people died in an early morning accident yesterday on the KubwaZuba expressway.

The dead, comprising two young females and five males, were said to be coming from the city centre when the Toyota Camry car they were driving lost control, knocked down a street light pole and crossed a drainage before crashing at the foot of a flyover. A 20-year-old woman, identified as Rukayyat, whose wedding was slated for Saturday this week, was crushed to death by a hit and run driver on Tuesday evening in Abaji, on the Abuja- Lokoja road.

A resident of NYSC Junction in Kubwa, which is not far from the scene of the crash, disclosed to our reporter that they were attracted to the accident spot by the sound of the crash around 4:00a.m. and that they rushed to the scene immediatel­y.

He said they found the driver and all the passengers dead when they arrived at the scene, adding that all the vehicle’s doors had to be forcefully opened before the victims were evacuated to the Kubwa General Hospital morgue cyclist lost control and they crashed in the centre of the highway.

The Divisional Police Officer of Kubwa, CSP Ayobami Surajudeen, who confirmed the incident, said so far the police were only able to identify one name out of the seven dead people and gave the name as Aderibigbe Abayomi who happened to be driver of the car.

He said the vehicle suffered an electrical fault which made the driver to lose control while accident that called officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who conveyed the remains to the Abaji General Hospital.

“After the deceased was confirmed dead by doctors, a certificat­e of death was issued and her corpse was conveyed in the FRSC van to her relatives for burial,” he said.

Our reporter learnt that the deceased, who hailed from on speed.

He said the vehicle rammed into the pillar so much that there was no survivor.

“They are all young people. The identifica­tion on the man suspected to be the driver did not correspond with the name on the vehicle’s registrati­on. We identified only a Yoruba and Calabar name. The others are yet to be identified,” he said.

He said the corpses were deposited at the Kubwa General Hospital’s mortuary. Shafa-Abakpa in Toto Local Government of Nasarawa State, came to Abaji to buy some items in preparatio­n for her wedding this Saturday.

When contacted, the Abaji Unit Commander of the ( FRSC), Assistant Corps Commander, Olasupo Esuruaso, confirmed the two incidents.

He said efforts were on to apprehend the hit and run driver. Police in the Federal Capital Territory have released the corpse of Charity Thilza, a corps member that was shot by suspected armed robbers.

She was returning from a music performanc­e by by Nigerian singer Phyno in Wuse II early Monday morning in the company of some friends when she was killed.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Usen Omorodion, said yesterday that the corpse was released to the family for burial.

He said all the people involved in the incident were cooperatin­g and have provided valuable informatio­n aiding the investigat­ion.

The Director, Public Relations of FCT National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Abosede Aderigbigb­e, said the deceased went to a club and was on her way home when some suspected armed robbers, trailing the vehicle, shot at the car.

“When they shot at the car, a bullet hit her and before they got to National Hospital, she died,” she said.

Thilza, an alumnus of University of Maiduguri, would have completed the compulsory one year NYSC programme yesterday.
