- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

At least 45, 000 farmers in the Federal Capital Territory will benefit from the ongoing Additional Finance Project (AFP), before the end of this year.

The FCT Fadama III project coordinator, Alhaji Abdullahi D. Salisu, disclosed this when he received a delegation from the World Bank and officials of the national coordination office of the Fadama III project who were on a mid-term review of Additional Finance Project ( AFP) in Gwagwalada on Friday.

He said though the project started since 2014 in other states, that of the FCT was delayed due to nonpayment of counterpart fund, saying the FCT minister, Muhammed Musa Bello, has paid the counterpart fund.

He said the FCT Fadama III office was working hard in order to ensure it covers the lost ground before the funds are exhausted so that farmers in the territory can benefit from the three value chain crops.

He said over 200 farmers groups have been registered across the six area councils, saying the Fadama III office was going to flag- off the rain fed operations in the FCT.

Earlier, a consultant with the World Bank, Zakari Salau, who led the delegation, said they came for a mi-term review of the Fadama III additional finance project in the FCT in order to ascertain the level of progress made so far.

He said the World Bank wanted to also see how the project had impacted on the lives of the rural farmers in the FCT and other states.
