- By Abbas Jimoh

The Governing Board of the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board at its 75th Board Meeting approved housing loans for more federal workers who applied recently.

Among those considered were the fresh applications for building houses and for purchase of houses.

The Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr Hannatu Fika at the end of the meeting said that the Governing Board was magnanimous in its consideration as it awaits the release of the N13bn mortgage refinance from Nigeria Mortgage Refinance Company (NMRC) which was recently concluded at a Housing Innovative Summit.

Also considered were the list of Private Estate Developers who had applied for partnership with the board so that public servants can avail themselves of developers of their choice across different locations in the FCT to construct houses of their choice.

A statement signed by a spokesman of the board Akinwale Adegbola said that among developers considered for the partnership were; Abuja Property Development Co. Ltd, West Bank Ltd, Self-Made Investment Ltd among others.

“The partnership with Federal Mortgage Bank on the renovation loan is yielding the desired result as about 1000 more public servants will soon receive loan to renovate their homes while arrangement is being concluded to move the partnership to the next stage,” Fika said.

She added that arrangement was also being concluded to commence the construction of affordable houses on a plot of land allocated to Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board by the FCDA at Wasa District, along Apo extension, Abuja.

The board observed during the meeting that there was no government in the past which had demonstrated commitment in the housing sector more than the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in view of the huge sum of money budgeted for housing which the administration promised to sustain.
