Four persons have lost their lives in two separate accidents in Abaji and Gwarinpa areas of the Federal Capital Territory during the weekend.

Two other persons sustained injuries in the crash, which occurred on Friday night at Naharati village, near Abaji, on Abuja-Lokoja road.

A witness said the accident happened at about 8:29p.m. and involved three vehicles, a Toyota Carina with registration number LKJ 331 BF, a Nissan car with registration number DH 891 ABC, and a Daf truck with registration number FGE 102 ZH.

He said the driver of the Daf truck coming from Lokoja axis suddenly lost control after overtaking another vehicle and rammed into the two vehicles.

He said the rescue team of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) later came to the scene to evacuate the two corpses and the injured victims to the hospital.

When contacted, the Abaji Unit Commander of the FRSC, Assistant Corps Commander, Olasupo Esuruoso, confirmed the accident.

He attributed it to over speeding and wrongful overtaking, saying the two corpses have been deposited at Abaji General Hospital morgue, while the two injured victims were at the same hospital.

Meanwhile, a policeman and an unidentified woman died when their vehicles collided at Gwarinpa which also left one person injured.

The accident happened on Saturday at about 7:30a.m. at the Gwarinpa Bypass Expressway.

The police sergeant with the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) was driving a Toyota Camry with registration number KEM 99 NP when the accident happened.

The sergeant and the woman died on the spot while the driver of the other vehicle, also a Toyota Camry with registration number FF 912 AAA, sustained injuries.

The Gwarinpa Divisional Police Officer, CSP Nuruddeen Sabo, said the corpses were kept at the Kubwa General Hospital.

He said the police were waiting for the woman’s driver, who was on admission at the hospital, to regain full consciousness so that he could inform her relatives. The FCT National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in collaboration with Grace Foundation has donated wheel chairs to seven people living with disabilities in different communities of the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking on Friday during the donation at the FCT NYSC office in Abuja, the coordinator, Abdulrazaq Salawu, said the aim of the donation was to make a positive impact in their lives.

“We want to interact with every member of the Nigerian community and that is why we have gathered here today to see how we can support these physically challenged people so that they too will have their comfort in whatever they are doing.

“Everybody is relevant, regardless of their status, and we want you to know that you people are also part of us and we believe that our national service also extends to you and that is why we include you in our planning,” he said.
