Poultry farm stench poses serious health hazard to my people- Chibiri chief

- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

The village head of Chibiri community in Kuje Area Council, Haruna Shaga, has said the stench from a poultry farm in the village, poses serious health hazard to his people.

Shaga, who spoke through his secretary, Sari Shagari, yesterday, noted that the stench was polluting the environment.

He said the bad odour has also attracted flies to the only stream in the village, which he said has made it unsafe for domestic use.

He said the community has made several efforts to call the poultry farm to order by writing letters to the primary healthcare in Kuje Area Council, but to no avail.

The village chief, also spoke about other challenges facing the community, such as lack of drainage systems to curtail outbreak of flood and lack of potable water.

Reacting, a representative of Dan Sarki Farms at the community, Lawan Kartan, said the poultry farm has explored every avenue in preventing the outflow of waste to the community since it started operation 17 years ago.

He said the management of the farm has always maintained a cordial relationship with members of the community, adding that the village has benefited from the poultry farm.

“And besides, we always make sure that we dry our waste and sell them as manure in order to prevent out flow of waste by all means,” he said.
