75 Female IDPs acquire vocational skills
The process of returning and rehabilitating IDPs to their home communities in ‘post-insurgency’ Borno State may have commenced with the graduation of 75 female IDPs from a 10-day vocational skills acquisition empowerment programme to help them rebuild their lives out of camp.
Distributing the vocational tools to the graduands in Maiduguri recently, the wife of the state governor, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima, advised them to focus properly on leading a good life out of camp, as they utilised the various vocational skills they had acquired to cater for their children and entire families.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Fanta Baba Shehu, said the vocational skills training programme was in keeping with the state governor’s plan to return and rehabilitate the IDPs in their respective communities soon.
The Director-General of the National Centre for Women Development, Bar. Mary Ekpere Eta, said the training programme was customised as a quick win to improve opportunities for the proper rehabilitation of the beneficiaries through enhanced, vocational and business skills to facilitate their ability to resettle and reintegrate into the society.
The IDPs acquired vocational skills on catering; sewing; hairdressing, makeup and headgear tying; knitting and crochet; as well as bead and jewelry making.
