- From Eugene Agha, Lagos

Detectives attached to the Special AntiRobbery Squad of Lagos command have attested three domestic help for allegedly bolting away with N14.5million belonging to their boss.

The suspects’ names were given so as not to jeopardize investigation.

The Lagos State Commissioner of police, Fatai Owoseni, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspects were currently being detained at the command headquarters, Ikeja.

He said the suspects comprising a cook, a gardener and a cleaner conspired and bolted away with the said sum from the house of a prominent family in Lagos where they were working.

Owoseni said one of the suspects, who was seen with a big bag, offered the police N200,000, to stop them from knowing the content of the bag.

“At the time of his arrest, he was about boarding a bus to Akwa Ibom State. When the officers refused the offer he increased it to N600,000. At that point the policemen decided to take him to the station. At the station the bag was opened and the sum of N5.3m was found,” the police commissioner said.

Owoseni further said that his confessional statement led the police to trace the other two to Epe.

According to him, the two suspects had earlier planned to travel to their home town in Benin Republic before they were rounded up.

He said that the sum of N9.5 million was also recovered from two of them, adding that the three suspects were helping the police with information.
