11yr old wins in National Spelling Bee

Eleven year old Adedipe Tirenioluw­a, a student of Ambassador­s College, Ogun State has emerged the winner of this year’s National Spelling Bee after spelling, ‘Branchiate’.

The competitio­n which featured 30 students from 12 states was organized by Young Educators’ Foundation (YEF) with support from stakeholde­rs including the Media Trust Limited, publishers of the Daily Trust titles.

The General Manager, Southern Operations of the Daily Trust, Mr. Ademola Oladosu reassured of the firm’s support especially by using its children publicatio­n, Teen Trust.

Tirenioluw­a spelt all the words given to her correctly and emerged the overall best. She won an all-expense paid trip to Washington DC, United States, cash prizes and one year supply of Beta Malt.

The young scholar had come second in the previous year but she confessed to our Reporter that her determinat­ion to win this year’s grand prizes paid off.

She said, “I feel very happy with myself, I give glory to God. I started spelling when I was in primary school and since then it has been a hobby to me”.

Another student from the same college, Miss Aghomi Favour aged 13 emerged the first runner-up while the third position went to Master Komolafe Emmanuel, aged 13 from First Class High School.

Teachers of the winning schools received cash prizes: the first got N100,000; the second got N75,000 and the third won N50,000.
