Stakeholders want contract mobilisation fee raised to 30% in Kwara
Stakeholders at the public hearing on some bills at the Kwara State House of Assembly have advocated for the increment of mobilisation fee from 15 to 30 percent for public procurement.
They stressed that the inclusion of threshold in the bill would go a long way in reversing the phenomenon of abandoned projects and enhance quick completion of government projects.
The stakeholders made the submission in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, while expressing their desire for the enactment of the State Public Procurement Bill 2017, during a public hearing organised by the House of Assembly.
They, however, turned down the call for the inclusion of the secretary to the state government (SSG) on the board.
Participants at the hearing noted that the Public Procurement Bill before the house would enhance the involvement of local contractors and other professionals in contributing meaningfully towards the development of infrastructure in the state.
The bill, according to them, would equally ensure transparency and accountability in the award of contracts in the state.
They also blamed the country’s underdevelopment on increased abandoned projects, which they said was largely attributable to less involvement of local contractors in the execution of the projects.
