Police inspector, doctor detained over report for injured robbers

- From Eugene Agha, Lagos

A police Inspector and a medical doctor are currently being detained at the Special AntiRobbery Squad (SARS), Command for allegedly issuing police report to notorious criminals to be treated for bullet injuries.

The suspects were picked by the Area D police command and they were being interrogated as at the time of filing this report.

A senior police officer at Area D command who spoke on the condition of anonymity said: "Following intelligence reports that inspector Agboola had connived with a medical doctor to be treating criminals, our commander set up a team to investigate. Our investigative team found out that before armed robbers or hoodlums strike, they would contact Inspector Agboola who would issue them a pre-police report in case their operations went awry. With the police report in their hands, when the hoodlums engage the police or other security agents, the hoodlums could easily go to any available police station with the report and would be allowed to be treated.”

The Area Commander Adesoji who confirmed the story said: "The inspector and the Doctor are in my custody. Preliminary investigation indicted the inspector seriously. We found out that he would collect money and issue police report to people that he has not seen. He would give police report to hoodlum without informing the Divisional Police Officer. He is the crime officer of his station, so he knew what to do, but, he is a mole in the house. For the medical doctor, he is always treating criminals with bullet injuries. He is also being interrogated. More fact will be revealed soon".

Inspector Agboola told our reporter that, "I did not know what came over me. A man called me on phone and told me that he was shot by armed robbers and that he needed police report. He sent someone and out of pity, I gave him the police report. I told my DPO on phone that I gave someone the report, but, I did not tell him that I did not see the victim. I think this is a set up. It is only God that can vindicate me".
