Enyimba, Lobi, IfeanyiUba­h win away as NPFL resumes

he second stanza of the 2016/2017 Nigeria Profession­al Football League (NPFL) resumed at the weekend, with former champions Enyimba, Lobi Stars and FC IfeanyiUba­h among the clubs that won away from home yesterday.

In Akure, Kingsley Eduwo scored the only goal of the match as Lobi Stars defeated Sunshine Stars to claim all three maximum points at stake, while visiting FC IfeanyiUba­h thrashed host Shooting Stars 3-0 at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.

At the Gateway Internatio­nal Stadium, Sagamu, a lone goal from Leonard Ugochukwu in the 39th minute gave Enyimba Football Club their first away this season in a game that was played behind closed door.

The hosts had opportunit­ies going ahead in the 8th minute through Ekene Awazie before Fatau Dauda saves brilliantl­y to deny another attempt from Ewelike Edozie.

The first opportunit­y for the visitors came through Mfon Udoh few minutes after Remo Stars lost couple of chances but he plays wide.

The home side had back to back chances through Victor Mbaoma and Ekene Awazie but Dauda stood calm to save for the People’s Elephant.

Leonard Ugochukwu got the only goal of the game after he tried his luck from close range and the ball spills pass Walbe David.

Attempts for the Sky Blue Stars to get an equaliser proved abortive and the visitors went away with the maximum points.

Remo Stars FC Technical Adviser has described the chances missed by his boys worrisome after they lost 1-0 at home to Enyimba FC in Match Day 20 of the Nigeria Profession­al Football League (NPFL).

Speaking with the media, Osho said, “we refused to take our chances, in football if you don’t take your chances then you face the consequenc­es and that’s what happened.”

Meanwhile, leaders Plateau United held hosts Katsina United to a 1-1 draw while second placed MFM were also held at home to a goalless draw by visiting Akwa United.

In other matches, Rangers Internatio­nal subdued Gombe United 2-1 in Enugu, Wikki Tourists hammered Abia Warriors 3-0, El-Kanemi went down 2-1 to ABS while Kano Pillars defeated Niger Tornadoes 1-0 in Maiduguri.
