Late Aminu Kano’s wife Shatu dies at 89
Wife of late Malam Aminu Kano, Hajiya Shatu, died on Sunday night after a prolonged illness, a family source said yesterday.
Late Shatu, according to the source, had been sick for many years before she passed on Sunday night at the age of 89.
She died 34 years after her husband, late Aminu Kano, a radical politician and founder of Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU), died in April, 1983.
The deceased missed the last two annual memorial lecture for her late husband due to the serious ailment which left her incommunicado.
Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and the entire members of his cabinet and hundreds of contemporaries of the late Malam Aminu Kano were among the dignitaries that attended the funeral prayers for the late Shatu which held along Zoo road.
Late Hajiya Shatu was buried at Dan Dolo cemetery according the Islamic rites, the source said.
Meanwhile, the Bayero University Kano (BUK) and Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Research and Training, Mambayya House Kano, have described the death of Hajiya Shatu as a great loss not only to the family of the revered politician but the entire people of Kano State.
A statement from the centre, signed by its Director, Professor Haruna Wakili, said the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, Professor Muhammad Yahuza Bello and Director of the centre had expressed their heart-felt sympathy and condolences to the family of late Aminu Kano over the great loss.
