Osibanjo to commission power plant, garment factory in Calabar
The acting President, Prof Yemi Osibanjo, is expected to commission a newly built Independent Power Plant, the Calabar Garment Factory and the monorail in Calabar this weekend.
The power plant and garment factory are projects undertaken by the Gov. Ben Ayade administration, which are 95 percent completed, but the monorail was started by ex-Gov. Donald Duke and improved upon by Sen Liyel Imoke, and has now been completed by Ayade.
The monorail links Tinapa Business Resort Limited another sprawling business complex newly built, Calabar International Conference Centre, built by immediate past governor, Imoke.
Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Ayade, Mr Christian Ita, who is a key member of the central working committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Prof Ivara Esu, planning for the acting president’s visit, confirmed at the end of another committee meeting that the acting VP’s arrival and the commissioning would form part of the state’s golden jubilee celebration.
Apart to from commissioning the two vital projects, the acting president will be taken round the new industrial city where the governor is also building eight industries, including Rice City, Calapharm Ltd, Para-Pharmaceutical Ltd, Biotech Ltd, etc.
The workers at these projects, as well as Ayade’s aides, have been working feverishly to meet the deadline before the arrival of the acting president.
It would be recalled that in September 2015 President Buhari visited the state to perform the groundbreaking for the proposed 260 kilometres superhighway.
