APC not a sanctuary for the corrupt — Spokesperson

- From Romoke W. Ahmad, Ilorin

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on politicians planning to decamp to its fold that it will never be a safe haven for those facing corruption charges.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said this at the weekend while speaking with journalists in Ilorin, Kwara State.

He said the APC had made it clear to politicians interested in joining the ruling party that no one would be shielded in the ongoing anti-corruption crusade.

He made the clarification to clear the allegation by the opposition that the APC was harbouring politicians who were undergoing prosecution for corruption related offences.

Abdullahi insisted that those accusing the ruling party of shielding some politicians were merely speculating as the party was not interested in providing cover for anyone.

The APC spokesman stated that the party would ensure that the current anti-graft battle was fought to a logical end.

He, however, asked those alleging that the ruling party was hobnobbing with the corrupt to back up their claim with facts.

“What is the available fact that people are being shielded? So, I think we need to find a clear definition for what is going on. People who are coming to APC have their reasons for joining the party.

“But we made it clear that APC will not provide a safe haven for anyone who is trying to shield himself for whatever he is being accused of. I don’t know any of these people who have decamped, who had corruption cases hanging on their necks and who after joining the APC, those corruption cases have been dropped,” Abdullahi said.
