Zaria’s new 150mld water treatment plant gulps N25bn
The Kaduna Commissioner for Water Resources, Engineer Suleiman Aliyu Lere, yesterday said the new 150mld Zaria water treatment plant contracted to Mothercat Nigeria Limited cost the state government N24.6bn.
The commissioner told journalists in Kaduna yesterday that the project has been completed and is being test run ahead tomorrow.
He said the Islamic Development Bank approved a loan of $81million for the construction of 73km transmission mains, 10nos service reservoirs and two booster stations.
The overall objective of the project he said is to improve access to sustainable portable water supply to Zaria metropolis of commissioning and environs. According to him, the project consists of one consultancy contract and four works contract being handled by Enviplan as consultant with Gamji Nigeria Company Ltd, Naston Engineering Nigeria Ltd as contractors.
Speaking further, Lere stated that the African Development Bank Board of Directors had approved a loan of $101 million for the rehabilitation and expansion of distribution network and sanitation facilities in Zaria.
The project, he said, seeks to improve access to safe water supply for residents and improve sanitation in schools, health centres and other public places like markets and motor parks in Zaria and environs as well as improve service provision and commercial viability of Kaduna State Water Corporation.
