We embraced Daily Trust farmers’ forum to enhance agriculture in Nasarawa – Commissioner
The Nasarawa state commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resource, Jamilu Zakari said the state government embraced Daily Trust framer’s forum and exhibition to enhance agricultural activities in the state.
Zakari who stated this while addressing the North-Central and FCT farmers’ forum and exhibition organised by Daily Trust newspaper in collaboration with the state Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, said that the forum came at its best time for bringing together experts from the six states and Abuja to talk about current trends and issues in the agricultural sector.
Zakari said that Nasarawa happens to be one of the agrarian state in the north central zone of the country and it’s situated at the centre of the zone, “It is therefore not accident that this discussion is billed to take place in Lafia.”
“We embraced the opportunity and privilege that Daily Trust has entrusted on us although it has come on short notice”, he said.
Zakari added, “This noble initiative is consistent with the Federal Government’s diversification agenda to achieve the Green Alternative for reviving agricultural potentials of the country for sustainable economic development.”
He added that since agriculture is the major employer of labour in this country, key stakeholders from the zone came together to ensure that agriculture received the desired attention it’s required.
He noted the Umaru Tanko AlMakura administration has paid more attention to this sector “because over 70 percent of our people are farmers and the government has put in place all the necessary impetus to support farmers and encourage investors from within and outside the country with an enabling environment to thrive.”
