Bauchi probes SUG election crisis at COE
Bauchi State government has set up a committee to investigate the crisis which followed the suspension of a Student Union Government (SUG) election at College of Education (COE) Kangere.
This is contained in a statement signed on behalf of Bauchi State Commissioner of Education, the Information Officer in the ministry, Dauda Sani.
“Following the unfortunate incidence that occured on Wednesday, 24th May, 2017 that led to a conflict between the Nigeria Army and the students of College of Education, Kangere, the government has constituted a High Powered Committee to look into the matter and investigate the remote causes of the conflict,” the statement stated.
The 10 man committee which was given one week to complete its assignment is to be chaired by permanent member II Bauchi State SUBEB, Ibrahim Sule, while Director Training and Manpower, Hajiya Asma’u A. Fateh will serve as secretary.
Other members include; Provost College of Agriculture, Bauchi, Professor Ladan Mohd Shehu, Chairman Special Schools Management Board, Yakubu Ibrahim Hamza and the Director Higher Education, Bauchi State Ministry Of Education, Ladan Sambo.
The rest include Representatives of Brigade Commander, 33 Artillery Brigade Bauchi, Commissioner of Police Bauchi State, Director State Security Services, Commandant , Bauchi State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Dfence Corps (NSCDC), President National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS).
Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students NANS has called on Acting President Yemi Osibanjo, Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abubakar, Chief of Army Staff Lt, Tukur Yusuf Burutai, and the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris to investigate shooting of students by Nigeria Army at COE Kangere
NANS Vice President, National Affairs, Comrade Shetima Umar made the call at a press conference in Bauchi yesterday, saying that there is the need to set up a committee to investigate the remote cause of the violence and alleged shooting of student in the college by soldiers.
