Assassination attempt: Lawyer seeks arrest, prosecution of 13 persons

A Katsina-based lawyer, Samaila Umar, has petitioned the state Commissioner of Police over attempted assassination of his client, one Bashir Gambo Kusada, who was allegedly attacked by 13 persons.

Those behind the attack were listed as Inusa Liman, Misbahu Abubakar, Bashir Abdullahi, Babayye Sani, Abdu Tsamo-Tsamo, Idris Wakili, Mamman Na Ali, Imrana Abdullahi.

Others are Musa Yellow, Na Inna Sabuwar Kandamawa, Haruna Na Gas, Dan Magaji and Abba Yello Yamaha.

A copy of the petition made available to Daily Trust crime Umar stated that: “On two occasions, my client complained to the Divisional Police Officer in Kusada over threat to his life but nothing was done.”

He said his client was presently critically injured and was on admission at the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina.

“Our client, while on his way to the DPO, a group of persons mentioned above attacked and beat him with sticks, machetes and other deadly weapons in an attempt to kill him but, however, he only sustained injuries,” he said.

Even when a Shar’ia Court issued a summons on the said persons, the DPO failed to produce them in court, he said.

Therefore, Umar said: “In the interest of justice, we urge you to bring these elements and many more who are not mentioned to book as no life can be taken unlawfully by anybody no matter how highly placed that person is in the society.”

When contacted, the Katsina Police Command spokesman, DSP Isah Gambo, said the petitioner ought to have been more specific with regards to the name of the DPO, saying that only last week a new DPO was posted to the division.

He said it would have been more appropriate to do that so that someone’s fault was not given to another.
