NBBF vows to stick to own constitution for federation elections
The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has said it will stick to the provisions of its own constitution in conducting its elections.
Speaking after a board meeting yesterday, a member of the board Olumide Oyedeji said the NBBF was not trying to have a standoff with the Federal Government by taking such a decision.
The ex-international said the NBBF was only trying to do right by not abiding by the Federal Government’s guidelines on the conduct of federation elections as well as dissolution of existing boards.
The Federal Government through the Ministry of Youths and Sports had set guidelines for the conduct of sports federations elections with the elections scheduled to take place on June 13th, 2017.
“Nigeria had already been warned in 2013 about the federation’s autonomy. That is why during the AGM in 2017, the constitution was passed,” Oyedeji said.
He insisted that the outgoing board must hand over to the incoming board, noting that no vacuum will be entertained.
The board member also said an electoral panel that will roll out the process and date of the elections would soon be announced by the board.
Also speaking, board member Agboola Pinheiro said the board meeting was to deliberate on the happenings in the Kwese Basketball League, Zenith Bank Basketball league and preparations for AfroBasket for men and women 2017, 2019 World Cup and the NBBF elections in line with the federation’s constitution.
