ABU begins construction of N250m Lakeview Golf Course
The Obi of Onitsha and chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Chief Nnaemeka Ugochukwu Achebe weekend performed the groundbreaking for the construction of N250 million Lakeview Golf Course.
He noted that sport is now a big factor for national cohesion and it is also a business worth investing in.
“Golf is the premier of all sports which can be played from childhood to end of life. Golf is inexpensive, it is a gentleman’s game which is played without personal contact and it is civilised and non-damaging,” he added.
Similarly, the Pro-Chancellor of the university, AVM Tukur Sa’ad (Rtd) said the game of golf does not discriminate, as it accommodates people of different ages, races and status.
He urged staff and students of the university to register with the new golf club in order to broaden their learning capacity. He said at completion, the ABU’s golf course would be one of the best in Nigeria.
The Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Muhammadu Nuhu Sanusi, described the golf course as a blessing to ABU, because, according to him, the institution will be the first university in Nigeria to own a golf course.
ABU’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Garba, called for promotion of the game, saying that would make more people to accept and participate in it.
