- By Ronald Mutum

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris said no arrest has been made of representatives of the ‘Arewa youths’ that issued ultimatum for Igbo people to leave the northern region.

He spoke on yesterday, at an interactive session with journalists during the IGP Conference with senior police officers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

He said the directive by Kaduna state governor for the arrest of representative of the group, would be carried out as far as there were evidence of infringement of the law.

He stated that, “the threat constituted subversive activities to the security of the country.”

He ordered that Police Zonal Commands and State Commands beef up security and intelligence gathering to forestall any breakdown of law and order following the joint statement issued by the group.’

Idris said, “No individual has authority to stop anybody from pursuing their daily bread anywhere in this country.”

He said the Nigerian Police Force has the responsibility to stop any group or individual that attempts to prevent any Nigerian from carrying out his or her daily activity, either movement or association.

He also said the Police would intensify marine patrols around the creeks in Lagos state to prevent cases of kidnapping in the area.

He further restated the ban on illegal road blocks for the collection of revenues, adding that a task force would be set up to check the abuse of sirens and spy vehicle plate numbers by civilians.
