CITY NEWS 2 die, 17 injured as bus crashes at Kwaita Court evicts tenant over 4 months house rent

Two persons lost their lives, while 17 other passengers sustained injuries after a bus crashed at Kwaita village on Abuja-Lokoja road.

A witness said the accident happened at about 2: 02p.m. Tuesday, when an 18seater Toyota Hiace bus with registrati­on number KTG 741 YG, coming from Lokoja end crashed into a heap of sand by the road side.

He said the driver lost control and the bus summersaul­ted and landed into a ditch, which left two passengers dead on the spot.

He said officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) later arrived the scene and evacuated the injured victims and the two corpses to Kwali General Hospital.

Our reporter learnt that the heap of sand was washed to the highway after heavy rainfall on Sunday.

When contacted, the Yangoji Unit Commander of the FRSC, Assistant Corps Commander, Joseph Godwin Samgbaza, confirmed the accident.

He said 20 people were involved in the accident, which he attributed to over speeding, loss of control and fatigue, while adding that the two corpses have been deposited at Kwali General Hospital.

Zamgbaza added that four persons were also injured in another accident which occurred on Wednesday afternoon at Kamadi village, on the same road, after a pickup van crashed.

He said the accident happened at about 3:30p.m. after a Toyota Hilux with registrati­on number CT 234 allegedly on high speed lost control and crashed into a ditch. A Magistrate Court sitting in Gwagwalada has ordered a tenant to vacate a one bedroom apartment for owing her landlord four month house rent in the area.

The plaintiff, who is the landlord, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed, told the court that the defendant, who is his tenant occupied the apartment in his property and was owing him four months arrears.

The defendant admitted owing her landlord of the said amount when the matter was mentioned in court.

The presiding judge, Magistrate Yusuf Ibrahim, while ruling on the matter quoted section 1, 2 and 3 of the Evidence Act, saying since the defendant had admitted owing her landlord, she should vacate the room.

He also awarded the sum of N3, 666 for the defendant to pay monthly to the plaintiff for occupying the said room from 16 February to 16 June 2017, which was calculated at N14, 666.

Magistrate Ibrahim said the payment is to be made on or before 20th of June 2017.
