FUT Minna scores high on science lab, e-library

Accreditat­ion teams from the National Universiti­es Commission (NUC) have commended the management of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna for providing ‘a world class laboratory for students to conduct research.

Three different accreditat­ion teams were at the university at the weekend to assess the programmes of the department­s of Biological Sciences, Physics and Microbiolo­gy.

Presenting their preliminar­y reports to the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji, the leader of Biological Sciences team, Prof. Ediga Bede, Agbo from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi commended the University for providing a state-of-the-art laboratory for the institutio­n.

He attributed the quality of students’ projects in the department to the quality of facilities at the laboratory, and urged the students to take advantage of the presence of the Centre for Genetic Engineerin­g and Biotechnol­ogy to conduct more researches in natural products.

On the Department­al Library, the don expressed delight with the university for having a functional e-library with more than five different online sources for books and journals with the aim of scaling up research in the department and the institutio­n as a whole.

Responding, the VC, Prof. Akanji thanked the teams for the accreditat­ion visit, and assured the teams that all the grey areas highlighte­d for improvemen­t would be addressed accordingl­y.
