CRIME Deaf, mute girl, 18, raped by man, 20, in Ogun

An 18-year-old deaf and mute girl has been allegedly raped by one Nurudeen Akintoye, 20, at Ajura in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident, said the rape was committed on June 7, at about 9.45pm.

Oyeyemi said that the victim was lured by Nurudeen into a bush and that he forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.

The victim, whose parents claimed was a virgin before the incident, was bleeding profusely from her private part. The sight of the blood enraged the people of the area and they tried to apply jungle justice on the suspect.

The timely intervention of the DPO of Owode Egba Division, CSP Sheu Alao, who quickly led his men to the scene, save the situation as the suspect was quickly arrested and taken to the station.

The police spokesman further said that the victim was taken to the General Hospital, Owode Egba, for immediate medical attention.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed that the suspect be transferred to the anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the state investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The CP also warned members of the public to desist from applying jungle justice on anybody suspected of committing any crime, as all suspects were presumed to be innocent until a court of competent jurisdiction stated otherwise.
