Kano police burst car theft syndicate, arrest 5

At least five suspects have been arrested for alleged armed robbery and car snatching in Kano State 15 days after the launch of a major crack down on car thieves by the police.

Parading the suspects, the Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Magaji Musa Majia, said five stolen vehicles were recovered from the suspects.

He gave the names of the suspects as Abdullahi Lawan, alias Dan Sokoto, of Kofar Yandaka, Katsina State; Sunusi Musa, alias Dankano of Hayin Mahe Village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State; Umar Hassan, alias Umar Yola, of Hotoro Quarters, Kano; Saifullahi Babangida and Abubakar Abdullahi Gimba, both of Gwagwarwa Quarters in Kano.

Majia said police operatives busted the syndicate at Kuntau Village, Dorayi Babba, behind forestry, where two vehicles were recovered.

He added that another syndicate was smashed at Gwagwarwa Quarters in Nassarawa Local Government Area of the state and a Golf Wagon car was recovered.

The police image maker further said a car thief was arrested at Tsamiya Babba in Gezawa Local Government Area and that he subsequent­ly led police detectives to recover two more vehicles.

He urged the general public to continue cooperatin­g with the police in tracking down all forms of criminals in the state. “While vehicle owners are advised to always park their cars with installed necessary security gimmicks for protection.”

However, he added that owners of the recovered vehicles had already been identified, and the vehicles would be handed over to them as soon as investigat­ion was completed.
